Fort Smith, Arkansas
Northwest Arkansas’s Fort Smith is a city on the Arkansas River. The town’s beginnings as a military outpost during the frontier era are traced by the Fort Smith National Historic Site. Local history is further investigated in the Fort Smith Museum of History. Historical streetcars are on display at the Trolley Museum. Clayton House, an Italianate-style estate close to Riverfront Park, and Miss Laura’s, a visitor center situated in an 1896 brothel.
