Sitka, Alaska

Sitka, located on Baranof Island off the coast of Alaska, was formerly the capital of Russian America. The nearby Sitka National Historical Park was built to reflect on the Battle of Sitka, which took place in 1804, which was the final significant fight between Europeans and indigenous Alaskans. With collections of unique relics, untouched portions of the Tlingit fort, and a Russian bishop’s house, the park now helps save the culture of the Tlingit people as well as that of the Russian and American settlers.
