Portafilter

Your espresso maker’s portafilter, also known as a “porta-holder,” is the container with a handle into which it pumps water. It positioned inside the portafilter basket, which contains the coffee grounds.

Use uniformly ground coffee and tamp it down into the porta-holder basket in an even layer for the best espresso extraction. We’ve given the porta-holder on our espresso machines a special flat base to make this crucial step as simple as possible to do correctly at home. It has recessed spouts to give you a solid base for slapping the grounds down and getting an even tamp every time.
